Christmas Parade

I had just woken up early in the morning, and had started getting ready for the annual Christmas parade for the year. I do not know who had the idea of having the Christmas parade in November, but it was really cold in the later months, so it was an even trade.

I had stayed over at my friend Luke's house the night before. He was playing in the parade for the high school band, and I was going to watch him with his mother. We had to leave early, so he could set up in time.

I walked into Luke's room to see if he was ready to head out. However, instead I found him crunched up in a rather odd position.

"Oh man, I feel so sick. I don't think I can go," he mumbled.

At that very moment, his mother walked in.

"Yes, he won't be going anywhere. He's been up since 4 AM, throwing up," his mother explained to me. "I'm taking him to the doctor. Can you call your mother, and tell her that Luke and I can't make it to the Christmas parade?"

"Yeah, sure. You can count on me!" I said.

"Thank you. Come on Luke, we have an appointment with the doctor." she told him. "You can stay here if you like, we should be back soon so I'll give you a ride after his appointment."

I figured that I would call my mom later, since the parade was not for another three... maybe four hours. I just had to get there early since Luke was going to be in it. So, I decided to sit down and watch TV. As the news came on and started rambling on about murders and other things, I decided to take a nap.

After I woke up, I was startled to find that I slept way longer than what I was expecting to. I ran to the phone and frantically dialed my mother's number.

Beeeeeeeep.... Beeeeeeeeep....

"Hello?" She said.

"Oh, hey mom," I said, "It's just me telling you that Luke can't make it to the parade today. He's sick, and Molly is taking him to a Doctor's appointment."

"Well that's a shame, I guess I won't be going then," she sighed.

"Yeah, it really is. Maybe next time," I said.

We said our goodbyes and we hung up. I decided just to walk home, seeing as Luke and his mother weren't home yet. After getting home, I spent a few hours doing my daily household habits. Making lunch, watching the game, etc. Shortly before it was time for dinner, I received a phone call I did not want to receive. It was from my mother, and it made my blood run very cold.

"Hey, I saw what you did," she snapped. "You thought you could trick me! Nope! Sharp as a nail!"

"What are you talking about mom?" I asked, confused.

"You told me you two weren't going to any Christmas parade!" She yelled.

"But we didn't go to any parade," I muttered, now worried.

"Oh, but yes you did," she retorted. "I saw you, Molly, and Luke. You guys even told me that you were stopping by after it was done."

I was so baffled. Before I could even come up with an answer, I heard three incredibly loud bangs from her line. Then she hung up.

Neither Molly nor Luke came home that day.

I know why. And I know that I am next, as I sit hear telling my tale. I hear them. I see them. Molly, Luke, and my mother. Their bodies are cut up; their eyes are gorged out of their sockets. They all repeat the same phrase.

"Join us, join them!"

There is a gun here. I don't know who will take the bullets.

Them... or me.
