Gaysexland

Had a few things played out differently, the United Kingdom could have been called Gaysexland.

Scotland was named by the romans and means the land of the Scotti/Scotts, however the people in Scotland referred to themselves as Gaels. This means Gaeland could have potentially been the name of Scotland had they named themselves. it is not much of a stretch to imagine that the spelling of Gaeland could have been changed over time to Gayland to fit grammatical patterns.

Englands name means land of the angles, and is called that because it was inhabited by the Anglo-Saxons. This means that if it had been named after the saxons instead, it would have been called Sexland. (the a in angle-land was changed to an e, Engle-land/England, so its likely that this would happen with this name too)

Finally, when Scotland and England united, there could have potentially been an idea to have combined these two names into one, as a symbol of unity. And that is why the United Kingdom could have been called Gaysexland
