Generated Jealousy

Ever since I played the old Pokemon games, you know, Generation 1, I was practically in love with Raichu. The human-sized electric mouse always seemed so cool to me, I couldn't make a team without it. I remember from my old Blue version pretty much how it went: Seismic Toss, Mega Punch, Mega Kick, Thunderbolt; the greatest moves on what I thought was the greatest Pokemon, my Raichu named ChuChu. It was such an amazing Pokemon, I used it for everything. I loved Raichu so much, that even with the advent of hacking, I could never bear to have a hacked one. Emulators came out, and I still get myself a legitimate Raichu.

Nowadays, in the age of Pokemon Generators of the Fifth Generation, it's hard to find legitimate Raichu, or any other Pokemon, unless you raise them yourself, which is what I did. Even if I did get a hacked one, I breed them myself to get a legit one to my liking. So, through careful breeding, I came up with my Generation Five Raichu, Storm. He's pretty amazing. Even though you can't replicate the Blue Version moveset without cheating now, I did the best I could, giving him Thunderbolt, Sweet Kiss, Reversal, and Volt Tackle. A suitable replacement, I thought. He was my favourite, and I always had him in my teams.

Now, I'm not one for hacks in general, especially if they involve my favourite Pokemon, but sometimes I do let it slide. In fact, with the Pokemon Generators, I got a nice electric type team: Raichu, Rotom, Raikou, Lanturn, Electivire, Eelektross. Pretty cool, if I do say so myself, but that's besides the point. Everyone, but the Raichu, was created from that generator, but nothing weird. They were all created to appear as normal Pokemon... normal stats, moves, abilities, everything. So, I didn't feel as bad about it as I would normally.

With this team, I felt confident. I was beating the trainers, even the tough ones. The Pokemon fell one-by-one, I raked the Poke in, and it seemed as if my Pokemon were getting stronger with every level. However, it started to get weird. After the first ten or so levels, the stat-gains were acting odd. Instead of the small gains that were expected, +2 or 3 maybe, I saw them gaining stats around +5 or even 6, and it wasn't just one stat. All of their stats were growing at that rate, creating an exponential growth. The only one that wasn't affected like that was Storm - the only real one in the team. By the time they had all reached level fourty, they had ridiculously high stats, all except Storm. It was almost painful to see my beloved mouse fall behind like that. I started to consider using some of those hacks to boost him, but I shut the game off for a while and let that thought leave my head.

When I went back to the game, things got stranger. The Generated Pokemon looked kind of pale in comparison to their normal colors. However, Storm was fine - he actually seemed more colorful; vibrant, even. I kept playing though, passing it off like I was imagining it. A few more hours in, it began to look really noticeable. The Generated Pokemon were all almost completely grayscale versions of themselves, and they looked tired. I thought maybe it was some innovative way to show they needed some kind of special treatment, even though I had played my White Version a lot before. I never really had the same Pokemon for this long, so I thought it may be something new.

I brought them to the Pokemon Center to have them healed them up, and they stayed exactly the same. I brought them to the Massage Lady, and that's when I started getting worried.

After she finished giving Raikou the massage, she gave me a strange message:

"Your Raikou...it seems like it's in pain..."

I had never gotten that message, and I was freaked out. If that was the message for Raikou, it would be the same for the others. Just to be sure, though, I checked in with the guy that rates happiness.

I did it for all of them, and he gave a similar message:

"Your Pokemon feels so much pain..."

Then I got to Storm. He read it, and gave a far different message:

"Storm is jealous...it wants them to pay..."

Panicking, I looked into my party, and the usual bouncy and fast animations of the Pokemon were almost nonexisitant, moving slower than even if they had fainted. Once again, Storm was fine, moving at normal speed.

I turned the game off again, deciding that I had maybe had enough of it for a while. I felt compelled to check the next day, to see if maybe I was dreaming or something, like I had passed out from staying up too late. I decide to turn it on to check my party, and it did change, but for the worst. Everyone, but Storm, had only one hit point left, and weren't moving at all. I opened their statuses, and each and everyone one was the same. Instead of the enormously high stats they had before, each one had only 1 point. Like every other time, Storm remained unchanged from what I could tell at that moment. I decided that I should probably get rid of them, since they were probably glitched. After I took a step, a text box opened with no provocation. The text occupying it was definitely something not programmed into this game.

"They don't belong."

I closed the box and kept going, but another box opened after a few more steps.

"They are unnatural. He wants them gone."

I closed the box again, hoping to just get to the Pokemon Center. I realized one of the problems of having a team of Electric Pokemon; not having a Flying type or something with Fly. As I got closer, another one appeared.

"Not like that, I mean gone for good."

"Storm has removed Rotom!"

I panicked and checked the party. Just like it had said, Rotom was gone! The slot was open and all the others were still there, but Rotom was no where to be found. What's more, Storm was at the front of the party, even though I had placed him at the back before. I kept going, though, hoping that it wouldn't happen again. Then, yet another box.

"Storm is jealous. Storm feels unimportant."

"Storm has removed Lanturn!"

"Storm has removed Raikou!"

I didn't bother to check. I knew Lanturn and Raikou were gone. This wasn't a dream, and this definitely wasn't some stupid glitch. This was real, and even though it was just a game, it was terrifying for some reason. As I continued, I was almost into the nearest town before the next box had appeared.

"Storm wants to be loved..."

"Storm will be stronger..."

"Storm learned Seismic Toss!"

While this wasn't as scary, I checked the party anyway, thinking this is something worth recognizing. Just like it said, the Raichu had learned Seismic Toss, which had replaced Sweet Kiss. I continued into the town, but when the screen came back, I walked back out the way I went in. Of course, another box appeared.

"Storm will be stronger..."

"Storm learned Mega Punch!"

"Storm learned Mega Kick!"

Scared, I tried again to go back so I could get rid of all the Pokemon left in the party, but something was preventing me from doing so. After the fourth try, though, I got the box again.

"Storm wants you to stay..."

"Storm removed Electivire!"

"Storm removed Eelektross!"

"Storm commands your attention!"

Once I closed that last text box, the Party menu opened by itself. Storm was, indeed, the only Pokemon there, but I recognized some changes almost instantly. Its HP was higher than before. Its level was higher, and, as I opened the stats menu, things finally hit the all time weird. The OT (Original Trainer) had changed to Snow; the name I had used way back in Blue Version. The moveset was the same as ChuChu's, and for all I know, the stats were as well. When I closed the stats window, another box popped open in the black lower-screen.

"Storm feels important now..."

"Storm wants Snow's love..."

"Storm is fake now..."

The sudden transition to my original Raichu's name had startled me, and I didn't know what to do. I closed the window, and everything seemed normal again. As I took another step, one more text box appeared.

"Does Snow love ChuChu now?"

"Does Snow love the fake ChuChu?"

"ChuChu got rid of the other fakes. ChuChu has real power. ChuChu is your real partner. Please love Chuchu..."

An option box appeared with the choices "YES" or "NO". I was baffled, and had no idea what to do. Nothing like this had happened to me before - I attempted to put down the DS, but my hands wouldn't come off. Something was drawing me to it. I was scared; I wanted it to end, and so I selected "NO", but the text repeated itself each time I chose it. I finally hit "YES", and got a different result.

"Snow is a liar. Snow hates ChuChu. Snow likes the real one more. Snow hates fakes... Snow wants the real ChuChu..."

"ChuChu is angry! ChuChu wants to battle!"

A battle commenced, and the Raichu appeared in the opponent section with my trainer sprite where it belonged. With no Pokemon, I couldn't battle. I had the standard options: Fight, Bag, Pokemon, and Run, but Fight was grayed out. I selected Bag, but a text box appeared to interrupt me again.

"No items can help. ChuChu is very angry."

I ignored Pokemon, knowing it wouldn't help at all. I tried selecting Run, and I got another text box instead.

"Snow tried to run. Snow is afraid. Snow hates ChuChu... Snow doesn't want ChuChu... Snow can't have anything...!"

"ChuChu used Thunderbolt!"

The animation for the attack went through, and I was returned to the map. There, the trainer sprite was knelt over, similar to it's "Saving" position, but the sprite was blackened, as if charred. I shut the game off, afraid to see what would follow. Breathing heavily, I left the room to go calm down, and left the DS there. I didn't touch it again for a week, since I didn't want to see that creepy stuff again.

When I finally went back, hoping would change, my old save data wasn't there. In fact, there was no data. I simply got a single text box at the start.

"ChuChu is sad... Snow can't see him again..."

Then the game turns itself off.

For some reason, I still go back from time to time to try again, and still get the same text...

I've searched for my Blue Version high and low since that incident, but for the life of me, I can't find it. Something is making me want to go back to find it; to find ChuChu. Find him and see him again, and maybe prove that I still do love my ChuChu...
