I had recently started re-watching Ouran High School Host Club (because, you know). Everything was normal at first as I was greeted by the sight of a familiar Bishōnen cast. I noticed something moving in the background amongst the fansubs (Yes I watched it on THAT site, if you're still reading this then you know the one). I thought it was some Easter egg I had never noticed, so I kept an eye on that area, hoping to know all the nooks and crannies of the show I loved so much.
It wasn't an awesome Easter egg though. Looking back at me was a new character who looked like Haruhi, but her eyes were empty. I saw no characters make a reference to her presence , and I double-checked the Ouran Wiki to make sure That this really was an Easter egg. As it turned out, it wasn't. WHAT!
I continued on with the show, thinking that I was just hallucinating as I often do. As I continued watching, I saw things that never actually happened in the main show. Notably, the host club drove off the Lobelia Maidens by battling them in a Mecha and Haruhi ended up with Hikaru at the end of the series instead of Mori. I know that she doesn't end up with Mori in the real show either, but I'm still bent out of shape about that and seeing a different version that still doesn't have my OTP in it makes me even angrier. Amongst all of these strange and rage inducing differences, I would constantly think I saw the other "Haruhi" in the fansubs, but I never got a better look at her. It was just a couple of maybes, always late in the episode (and once during the end credits). I tried pausing whenever I thought I saw her but could never stop it at the right moment.
I went on Goboiano to see if anyone else had found the pseudo-Haruhi. Nope. I created my own post telling of the phantom and asking if anyone had seen her. The post was deleted within five minutes for breaking the rule about not discussing unofficial streaming sites. I tried again, and the topic was deleted even faster. I received a PM from an admin containing two words: 'Nice Try.'
I received an email from another forum user. He claimed the ads can read the forum user messages (this is especially true since there are no private messages on Goboiano), so we were safer using email. The emailer claimed that he had seen the mystery character too, and had a small 'directory' of other users who had seen her as well. Their shows were littered with OTP destroying changes as well, and described their mystery character to have no pupils.
About a month passed until I heard from my informant again. Some of the people who had encountered the mystery woman had looked into it and found nothing. Well that was helpful.
I haven't seen the mysterious Haruhi since I last re-watched the show, and I haven't noticed any changes to the other Anime series I watched. I was unable to take any screenshots so there's no evidence that any of this ever actually happened. But hey I'm super trustworthy, aren't I?
