Mario's Last Stand

Finally getting home from school, I got this urge to play Super Mario World for the SNES. I was looking for a ROM of it, but I couldn't find one on Google. I finally found a website that had it, but I had never heard of such a site. It was called [REDACTED]. I usually go to safer sites to download my ROMs, but they didn't have the game for some odd reason.

Anyways, I clicked the link, and a grey screen appeared. There was nothing but a link: "Download Now". Without thinking, I clicked it. It began to download, and about two minutes later it came in a .rar file. That's what everything comes in when I download it. I opened it up, and dragged it out to my Desktop.

Ready to play, I opened up my Emulator and opened the game. It started like normal, but there was no music. I thought I had my Emulator on mute, but it wasn't, so I tried my computer to see if it was muted. It wasn't muted either, so I ignored it and continued.

I selected "New Game" and started a new file. Again, started like normal, with no music. I selected the stage "Yoshi's Island 1", it continued normally, yet still no music.

Anyways, as I got to the middle of the level, that's when things started to turn on me. The level got deep red, and there was fewer enemies. Soon there was no enemies at all and Mario stopped moving. I couldn't make him move, no matter how hard I pressed the right arrow key. Suddenly, Bowser appeared, then a text box appeared above him saying "Mario, This is your Last Stand!" Then Bowser faded away.

"Last Stand"? I thought to myself. What could that mean?

Then Mario simply stood there in front of the screen, with no eyes, just bloody, empty sockets. Staring at me.

Loud demonic music started playing, I jumped and threw my headphones. They banged against the wall. It felt like my ears were bleeding from the loudness of it. I picked up my headphones, hoping they weren't broken. I put them back on slowly. No music was playing, thank god. The background faded to black, and all I could see was Mario standing there with his eyeless face. A text box appeared above him. It read:

"This isn't my Last Stand, It's yours." There's that Last Stand shit again.

The text continued:

"This is my game, You don't OWN it!"

A loud laugh came through the headphones. I screamed, it was blood curdling and shrill, making my ears ring. I tried to close the emulator, but it wouldn't respond. Then I tried to turn off the computer, but that wouldn't work either. A text box appeared again, saying:

"I wouldn't do that if I were you..."

Then the game closed and the computer shut down. Once more I could breathe. I sighed in relief and turned it back on, then logged in. My wallpaper was changed to Mario staring at me. The game opened up without warning. I was shocked at the event, a game opening on its own? How?! The amazement stunned me, I was sitting there, looking like an idiot. Mario stood there laughing, as tortured screams made my ears bleed. Again, a text box appeared. It read:

"This is it, your Last Stand."

Mario faded into the blackness, and the emulator stopped responding and finally closed, leaving me to wonder what last stand meant...
