Metroid Prime: Dark Descent

Greetings there, fellow Metroid fans. It is I, Magna, and I am here to tell you a bit of a story. A dark story, filled with dread, terror, and everything in between. This is the story of my experience with Metroid Prime Trilogy, and the darkness it contained.

It was a happy day to send myself to go buy Metroid Prime Trilogy, for the Wiimotes ability to possibly aim better instead of struggling with my control stick. The clerk seemed pretty bored, as if he hated his job. Which was probably the case, but I didn't care.

I asked if he had the trilogy on hand, but he only had one copy. It was a bit messed up, but playable. The cover was fine, which was one of the things I hoped was still intact, as I hate messy and/or not the proper cover. After obtaining the game, the clerk gave me an almost concerned look before I walked away. As before, I didn't care.

I soon arrived home to check the disc. It was a bit scratched but, nothing too bad. I threw it in, checked to make sure my Wii read it, and started playing. And then it told me the disc was unreadable. Great... So I took it out, gave it a rub down, and put it in. This time it worked, although the music was a bit strange, as if it were skipping. I sighed and just decided to play Metroid Prime.

All was well so far, except I wasn't even in the correct area. Instead of starting at the Space Pirate facility, like how Prime usually starts, I was in the snow area that was way later in the game. The problem? There was a door that needed a super missile to open, one I didn't have.

It was then I noticed I had no map. This was already going to be a fantastic day, so I just carried on and attempted to tough it out. Thankfully, there was one door I could open, but with no map, I had no idea where it lead. The inside of the door was dark, as if every source of light had been sucked out. As soon as I walked in, the door closed and turned red, to show it was locked. I was in a pitch black room, with no map, and nothing else on screen.

As I walked along the path of who knows what, a blast of steam blew by me, which startled me. What really startled me however, was seeing Samus' face pop up from the steam, as it would do if steam hit your helmet, which would show Samus' reflection from the visor. As I continued on, I heard talking, which is weird in a Metroid game, as there was never any voice acting. It sounded like a woman, and she sounded very close by. But no one was there but Samus.

The voice told me that I was no better than the Space Pirates. What exactly that meant, I had no idea. As I continued to walk, a door finally appeared. I opened it, and found myself in Dark Aether, the dark world in Echos. I was fairly certain I choose Prime as my game, so I was a bit concerned. As I continued, Space Pirates stood around the area, all lined up. I got ready for combat, but I noticed something. Samus' gun has been missing since I started the game.

All the Space Pirates stood lined up, not moving an inch. As I walked forward, their heads followed me. They kept staring at me, but not doing anything. As I reached the end of the line, Dark Samus was standing in the middle, shaking her finger. In her hand was a Metroid, but it was scared, shivering. The sheer sight of Samus put it in utter terror. And for the second time of the game, someone else spoke.

Dark Samus said that I was no better than the Space Pirates, causing pain and suffering where ever I went. I wasn't saving the galaxy, but destroying it. Everywhere I had been, death was sure to follow. As she finished, she snapped her fingers, and an image of dead Space Pirates littered the area to my right. As she snapped them again, it showed how I had killed them all, without even a second thought.

Every Space Pirate that died however, had turned into one of the Ing, the dark creatures that inhabited Aether's dark world. As my journey continued, more Ing were created, following behind Samus, but without my knowledge.

As Samus continued, the Ing began combining with her, but without her even seeing them. The slaughter of more creatures, began causing more Ing to cling to Samus. It was as if they were drawn to her actions, as if for every creature slain, she lost a part of herself.

As Dark Samus finished, the Metroid, possibly out of an act of revenge, clung to Samus' head, but could not be removed. Her reflection in the helmet visor would every now and again appear. She could be seen obviously in pain as it was draining her energy. However, as her face appeared one last time, there were no eyes. Her cheeks were also slightly caved in, and she had a blank, almost zombie-like expression. The Metroid popped off, and Samus stood quietly.

It flew back to Dark Samus, sending dark currents into her already dark form. She said that Samus was no more, that her dark reign had been ended. That every creature may rejoice once more. As Dark Samus cheered, Samus removed her helmet, and dropped it on the ground. Little by little, her suit fell apart, until she was left in her Zero Suit. She dropped to the ground, her head landing near her fallen helmet, once again, showing her lifeless face.

Dark Samus walked up to Samus, and grabbed her by the neck, lifting her up to her helmet. Dark Samus' face could be seen through the visor, which as it looked in Echos, was as lifeless as Samus' was. She said that the suffering had ended, and that Samus no longer had to worry about her sins. All the Space Pirates gathered behind Dark Samus.

Dark Samus lifted up her other hand, and a purple energy began being released, covering up most of the screen in a semi-transparent purple hue. The screen soon panned inside Dark Samus' helmet, and the screen turned black.

When the screen came back on, Samus was now in her ship, but her suit was that of Dark Samus. In fact, I was in control of Dark Samus. I looked around the inside of the ship, which now resembled the cockpit view of Corruption, but there seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary. I looked over at a mirror hanging on the side of where Samus was seated, and saw Dark Samus' reflection. Her helmet vanished from her head in purple smoke, and her face looked exactly like Samus. She smirked and said: "Don't worry old girl. Your soul is back where it belongs."

The screen panned back to show Samus' ship jumping away from the planet into deep space, leaving a purple trail behind. It was then that the screen froze in place.
