Metroid Prime: Spreading Evil

Last night I had an amazing dream. I was Samus Aran, exploring Tallon IV in Metroid Prime. It was like I played the actual game in my dream but I was able to control Samus like I was able to control my own body in real life. For the entire dream I continued exploring Tallon IV and eventually destroying the Space Pirate bases and killing Metroid Prime. But shortly After Metroid Prime extracted the Phazon out of my Phazon Suit, a textbox appeared saying: "Phazon will spread. Everything will be corrupted. Soon ...".

Which I didn't respond to in my dream. I just escaped the Impact Crater like Samus does in the game. I woke up and realized that Metroid Prime never said that in the actual game. But knowing it was a dream so I didn't really care about it. Later that day I told my best friend about the dream. We talked about the Prime games for a while and agreed that he would come over to my house to play the two Gamecube Metroid games once again.

Unfortunately, I left my Metroid Prime game at my parents home so we started with the second one, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. I pulled the game out of my closet and plugged in the Game Cube. I put the disc in the reader and started the game. We already had beaten the game many many times before, even on 'hard mode', so I deleted all my save files and started a new one. Everything was working perfectly fine. We crash landed on Aether, walked around, encountered Dark Samus, beat the Dark Alpha Splinter, talked to U-Mos etc.

When we reached the Agon Wastes area and walked into the room which in one door leads to the Agon Temple and another door to the Space Pirate base, the cutscene didn't play. There were no Space Pirates. There were no creatures at all. And there was a patch of Phazon spread over the door leading to the Agon Temple. We looked at the screen, surprised. At first we thought about resetting the game,  but then realized it could be a secret glitch! We were at this point pretty excited and were joking around in the Area. Naturally curious, we continued playing the game.

Since the entrance to the Agon Temple was blocked, I took the other one leading to the Space Pirate Base. At our surprise, we could perform a double jump. which normally requires the Space Jump Boots  Samus regains later in the game.

When I entered the room where you usually battle some Space Pirates arriving on Assault Skiffs, nothing happened. There were no Space Pirates, there was no cutscene, everything looked abandoned. As I walked to the center of the room, I noticed the turbines weren't spinning like they usually do. Instead, the bottom part of the turbines were covered in Phazon.

We were a bit annoyed by it because we liked battling the Space Pirates a lot. But as we examined the rest of the area, we noticed that in the distance, Dark Samus was hovering in the hallway leading to the Space Pirate Base. She was looking at Samus. I moved the control stick to move her towards Dark Samus. But if Samus moved even an inch closer, Dark Samus stepped back. I quickly made the decision to just run towards her. But when I got close, Dark Samus exploded in millions of tiny particles of Phazon. When this happened, the creepy music, which starts whenever Dark Samus is encountered, suddenly started playing instead of the usual theme.

My friend an I looked at each other and agreed we should find out what is happening. As I moved Samus towards the entrance, it started to get really interesting. Because usually you would need the Dark beam to open the door leading from the previous area to the actual Base, but this time there was just a plain blue door. I shot the door and entered the room.

I dropped my controller as me and my friend watched the screen horrifically displaying the Space Pirates lying on the ground, dead. Burned bodies of Space Pirate Troopers and Commando's covering the with Phazon covered floor.

One Pirate was split in half by a huge gate, like it was desperately trying to get through but didn't make it on time. A few Metroids were hovering over a pile of dead Commando's laying on top of a Phazon Storage Crate. One single Pirate Commando, still alive, started crawling toward Samus when he saw her. I quickly grabbed the controller and scanned it. The log said: "Morphology: Space Pirate Commando.

Multiple high energy blasts have ripped the armor and skin off of this Trooper, leaving it vulnerable to any kind of weaponry. It seems, in all likelihood, it was shot by an unusual amount of a highly radioactive material, slowly burning it's flesh to the bone."

I took aim and was ready to fire, but something seemed a bit odd. It's eyes looked desperate. Space Pirate Commando's are taught to show no fear and no mercy to anyone or anything, yet it was looking at Samus, like he was trying to say: "Shoot me!" I fired a missile ... and killed it.

Then a cutscene played, showing Samus walking around the room, looking at the dead bodies. The Metroids in the room just ignored her. She scanned a Pirate Log, saying: "The Dark Hunter has hacked our database. All our secrets are now exposed to her. We are trying to hold off her raids on our Phazon supply, but all our attempts are in vain. She murders every Trooper that dares to stand between her and the Phazon, in the most painful way possible. Exposing them to Phazon radiation and slowly letting them suffer to the effects of the material.

Soon, there will be only a few of us left. But we shall fight till the end. Death to the Dark Hunter! Glory to the Space Pirates!" As the log closed, Samus saw a vague figure at the other side of the room. She began to see twin vision. The screen just twitched. Samus fainted and the screen went black.

My friend and I looked at each other. I said to him: "Have you ever heard this Metroid story before?" "No". He replied. He then said he had enough of this weird glitch and decided to go home. But I was still wondering what will happen next. Is this the end? I wanted to reset the game but the screen suddenly went back on and the cutscene continued, displaying Samus standing up again.

The screen was shaking. Like Samus was dizzy. The vague figure that was standing at the other side of the room came closer. It was Dark Samus. The Metroids in the room started hovering around her.

She pointed to the left. It was U-Mos. He was hanging from a metal fence on a high platform. His legs were missing and one arm was covering it's eyes, like he could not watch this great horror anymore. A Metroid attached itself to his head and tore it off. The Creature dropped the head right before Samus' feet. I was mortified and angry. What sick mind would do this to a Metroid game?!

I wanted to interact but I could not control Samus anymore. The cutscene continued when Dark Samus pulled out the poor Luminoth's heart and showed it to Samus. A text-box appeared saying: "The last of the Luminoth has fallen to the Great Poison." Seeing the heart of U-Mos, I almost vomited. I didn't want to look at the screen anymore and just turn off the game.

I decided to look one more time to see if I was able to do anything to stop this horror, I noticed that the cutscene ended and I was able to control Samus again. I quickly grabbed the controller again and dashed aside pointing the Armcannon towards Dark Samus and charged the powerbeam. But before I could release it to take revenge on Dark Samus, another text-box appeared, asking me:

"Do you want to save this planet and the entire Metroid World? Yes? or No?". Before I got the chance to answer it, the camera turned around showing Samus' helmet. She took it off and started looking at me. Not in the game, but actually looking at me in person!

It scared the hell of me. I moved to left and then to the right, but Samus' eyes were following me. I then knew this wasn't an ordinary glitch. I read too many Creepypastas to know that shutting off the game wouldn't work. I felt powerless. I knew I would have make the right decision. I wanted to help that poor world, even though it wasn't a real world. So the only option for me to choose, was "Yes".

Samus then started crying. I could hear the psychotic laughter of Dark Samus echoing trough my television set, slowly beginning to sound more and more realistic. Samus' once again looked at me. I looked closer and realized she wasn't looking at me this time, but at something else.

I froze. Slowly I looked behind me, only to see Dark Samus pointing at me with her Armcannon before she corrupted my body with the 'Spreading Evil' and made me suffer the same fate as all the others trying to deny her access to the Great Poison, Phazon.
