Manfred wasn't a very smart man.

He took everything at face value, never really seeing through tall tales or secrets not mentioned, and so he bought a cheap house in a marshland. A standard 2 story house made in the 1970's, and he loved it very much, it was his pride and joy.

He lived alone in this house, and despite his love for it, the smell was disgusting, and there were bug infestations quite frequently. One night, he investigates to find the source, when he overturned a floorboard and found the secret.

A food cache was rotting underneath his floor, left by the previous owners. Despite his attempts to contact those who sold him the house, they were unreachable. He began throwing out the rotting food when he stumbled across the true secret of this house.

Grey rotting bodies lay underneath the food piles. Naturally, a horrifying sight, but Manfred was conflicted. If he called the police, he would seem suspicious for having bodies in his home. If he didn't, he wouldn't be arrested but he'd have to live with the trauma.

So there he lie, in his bed at night, but he was without sleep, only laying with dread. Morning after morning, day by day, his eyes became more wide and red, his appearance became sickly and unkempt, and his mind was decaying fast.

Then, he heard it. Heartbeats. Multiple heartbeats from different sources. Soon he began hearing creaking, it getting closer and closer. He grabbed a gun to defend himself, and yet how could he against a foe he couldn't understand?

His aim weakened, his arms quaked, and his door swung open. The bodies moved slow, yet with perfect tracking. Pieces of their skin flaked off, revealing bone and rotten tissue. Manfred was overwhelmed, and dropped his weapon, accepting his fate.

Manfred was found dead the next morning, and there were bodies in his house. His body was found in his room, blood soaked the floor, and he was very dead, a gunshot wound to the head.
