Noggin's Oobi - "Counting"

You know, everyone remembers the famous TV network "Noggin"? I remember it as a part of my childhood and its TV shows like Dora The Explorer, Blues Clues, Maisy The Mouse & Oswald.

But one TV show I remembered was called "Oobi" which is about a pair of hands living in a world of hands. It kind of reminds me of the Nickelodeon's avant-garde short "All Hands In".

Anyway, the TV show lasted 2000 to 2005 with the last one airing Febuary 11th of 2005. But back in 2003, there was a planned episode that was outright banned for being too disturbing for little kids and continued the schedule.

I was a janitor and one of the staff in the testing rooms of Noggin Studios. I was pulled into a room from the creator of the TV show "Josh Selig".

"C'mon, it's time for the testing of the new episode!" he said as he pulled my arm and softly pulled me.

Of course, being Josh's best friend, I followed him and announced to the kids, "Hey kids! It's about time for the new episode! And without further ado, let's insert the disc and let's get to playing!"

All of the kids and parents applauded at the creator as I ran and pick up the case. I was caught off-guard when I saw the cover. It said "Oobi: Counting" in messy writing. I whispered to him if it was the right one, he nodded with a warm grin. I inserted the disc into the tray and clicked play... god I wish Josh and I hadn't announced this...

It started with Oobi and Grampu in the kitchen table as he and Grampu were counting. Oobi turned around and gave a wave as he said "Oh, Hi! Grampu counting with me!"

The camera zoomed into the door where there was a knock. Oobi got up and opened the door. Suddenly, a loud gunshot happened.

Every kid in the room gasped. I paused the video. "Uh, unfortunately we'll have to-"

Unfortunately my voice was cut off, with one of the guards screaming "CONTINUE THIS OR YOU'RE FIRED!" I obeyed and continued on.

It showed the corpse of Oobi dead in the ground with bullet holes in his head. His eyeballs were dropped on the ground. It cuts to show Grampu, sitting on the chair and saying to the kids "Grampu count the holes..." He slowly counted 4. Afterwards, he waved goodbye quietly as the credits rolled.

After the testing, every kid was given a free Noggin Magazine as a sorry and a sincere apology to all of the angry moms and dads who stormed at the studio. Later, the guard was later fired for screaming in the middle of the testing rooms and was later arrested.

I was still mortified by the sick and twisted episode! How can a episode show so much sadness, so much pain and so much violence! Well, I told the head of Noggin for a week off and to pay me up each day, and to later regret ever watching the episode ever again.
