Oblivion - The FUN Mod

It was 3 days ago that it happened.

What, you may ask? The most horrifying thing that I've ever experienced in my life.

I never, EVER want to play 3-D games again. Not after what I experienced. And I hope none of you ever experience it either. I still have nightmares, and I still see things happen right in front of me.

I have a lot of video games for my computer. I have games that I downloaded, such as Elswood and Team Fortress 2, and I have official games such as Halo and Portal 2. But about a week ago, I discovered I was lacking one of my favorite game series, which were any Elder Scrolls games. And my favorite game out of the series had to be Oblivion, game number 4.

After realizing I didn't have this game, I decided to go online and find it on Amazon or eBay. As I scrolled through Amazon, I was surprised by what I found - someone was selling the game for a low price of 5 dollars. It was a BRAND NEW copy, never opened and never played. I thought to myself, maybe this is a scam. But I messaged the user, whose name I shall not repeat.

I sent them a message, asking if it was a legitimate, new copy of the game. They sent the message back, with a reply that simply said 'Yes'. Moments later, he uploaded a picture of opening the box and showing the disk - there were no scratches or smears, so it was obvious this game had never been opened.

I had plenty of money at the time, so I decided it couldn't hurt. After purchasing the game, I waited for it. It came the next day, first-class mail. I received the envelope with the game at 12:43.

I was creeped out moments later. The reason I remember the time is because I sat at my computer, and my Amazon page had opened up by itself. I had a new message, which I quickly opened. It was from the person I bought my new copy of Oblivion from. It only said two words. HAVE FUN! That message was sent at exactly 12:43.

Wasting no time, my fingers gripped the envelope and tore it open. The game case fell into my lap, with fresh tape around the top, because the user had opened it during the sale. I loaded it into my computer and let it install.

Strangely, a new window popped up, asking one simple thing, but I wasn't sure. 'Do you want to play Oblivion with the FUN mod activated?' It followed with two answers: yes or not now. I was about to choose not now, however I was a bit curious as to what this mod would do. So I decided to hit yes.

The game loaded normally, with the 2K Games and Bethesda Soft works images showing, then moving to the title screen. However, there were a few things that I found absolutely bizarre. The top of the screen usually showed 'The Elder Scrolls - Oblivion', but it was not there.

Also, there was only one option instead of the usual 4 or 5. It was 'Continue Game'. Wanting to play this as much as possible, I didn't waste time - I clicked it, and the only save file was of a male Wood Elf named 'You'. I laughed a bit, thinking You is a strange name for a character.

But then I remembered - this is a NEW copy. How is there a save file on a new game?

Could just be a bug, I told myself.

Maybe it was a debug character they never took out, and maybe it had legendary weapons or armor I had never seen before. I hit Continue and the screen started loading.

While I thought the game was bugged, certain features in the game were growing stranger and more mysterious as time went by. First, the tips on all the loading screen were replaced with only one phrase -

"Go to Jauffre and he will set you free."

This gave me a little shiver, but I tried to push it aside as a development error. Or it could be possible that the 'FUN' mod was the culprit of these odd happenings.

When my character finally loaded, I was in the Imperial City arena, right outside the doors to the battle area. I went in, and saw that the gates were already down. How odd, I thought. I charged at my enemy, a simple Nord with an iron dagger. After I killed him, I decided to search his body, which I remembered seconds later was prohibited in the arena.

But this was getting creepy. Instead of 'Looting dead opponents is prohibited', the text box said "Just another murder you have committed, right? Don't sweat it."

I was beginning to question the intentions of that mod. Nevertheless, I left and got my gold from the Blade Master. Then I left, remembering the loading screen, telling me to see Jauffre.

I tried fast traveling, which was blocked. The text box said:

"You don't have wings, and you are not allowed to teleport in this area. Go on foot before I catch you."

Who was I? Who was preventing me from doing things in the game? I was frightened, but I decided to walk. anyways. It was my only choice.

I opened the inventory, and equipped my armor, which was only iron. My weapon was a Bound Bow, and I had 5 arrows. Maybe I could find some others along the way...

I started to walk to the house where Jauffre was. As I grew closer to the area, text boxes kept appearing. Some would say things such as 'Stay on the path now', while others said 'If you try to take a shortcut, I will cut your life short.' My character's face started to form a frown, and it realistically whimpered and shook with fright. Sometimes it would turn to me and shake it's head, basically stating it didn't want to continue this journey.

I finally reached the house. The other priests who lived with Jauffre lied on the floor, in pools of their own vomit and blood. Their bodies were scared, and holes were shown in their skulls and where their hearts should have been. My character let out a loud shriek, even though I had my sound down low.

It was at that moment when Jauffre slowly descended the stairs, a menacing grin on his face as he looked at me. Every step he took, his body changed. It started to glow red, and horns started to grow on his head. His eyes turned into flames, and his clothes disappeared, his body now that of a demon's.

It stopped in front of me, and a text box showed the words "Live or die, your choice." A menacing laugh came from the demonic creature standing in front of my Elf. I chose 'Live' without hesitation. However, when I clicked it, the words darkened, as if I couldn't choose it. I cautiously moved my cursor to Die.

A horrifying scream of pain went through my speakers. It almost deafened me. I closed my eyes, shouting for it to stop...and seconds later, everything was quiet.

I looked up, and my character was floating in the middle of nowhere, lying down as if he had died. The 'Load Save' screen popped up, and the save file was replaced. It showed a picture of me. Me, dangling from a rope, my eyes ripped from my body. My jaw was torn off, tongue drooping 2 feet. My skin was the color of snow, lifeless and dead.

I turned off my computer, and immediately ejected my disk. After throwing it away, I saw burn marks on my fingers. It stung, as if someone forced a burning hell on my hand. I looked at the disk, and blood red scratched on the back of the disk said 'You chose to die'.

The seller of the game sent me a message seconds later. The message opened on itself, and it read 'I hope you had fun, Adam.' Then my computer froze and shut down.

How did that person know my name? How did they control my computer? I don't wanna know anymore, and I never want to play any video games again. Please, if you find any user that sends you a message of 'HAVE FUN!', throw the product away immediately, because it may be cursed, hacked, or dangerous to even open.
