Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?: The Happy Tree Haunt!

I assume most of you readers have heard of Scooby-Doo and its latest ongoing series, Scooby-Doo and Guess Who. I very much like the show and I am close friends with Frank Welker, voice of Scooby. Well thanks to that connection I was able to see a lost episode of Guess Who. And I was not surprised that this one was canned. It was so gory and confused on tone that I couldn't even get why anyone would conceptualize this idea. To put the idea in one sentence;

Have you ever heard of Happy Tree Friends?

Yeah, that's right. The episode was called "The Happy Tree Haunt!' and starred the HTF characters teaming up with the Scooby Gang to stop Flipqy from terrorizing their hometown. I'd very much like to clarify that there was no satanism or any strange and disturbing creepypasta bullshit in this episode. It was still very much a normal episode. You'll see why it was so strange when I summarize it.

The episode started with the usual prologue with Flipqy terrorizing the hometown. Lumpy came along in his police uniform and with body languages and nothing but mumbling, told him to stop in the name of the law. Then the strange parts that persist in the episode first appeared.

This episode still very much contained gore. In fact it was the usual HTF type, not toned down a little bit. But it still had the usual Scooby aspects. So Flipqy ignores Lumpy, gouges his eyes out, and mutilates his body in a horrifying fashion. The prologue ends and the intro plays normally.

The title card when the flashlight was shone on the guest appearance showed Cuddles, Giggles, Petunia, Nutty, Toothy, and Lumpy. What was strange was that Lumpy had been already killed in the prologue. I shook it off as some sort of mistake by the artist who drew the title card. But it wasn't.

Mystery Inc. soon appears at the scene preparing to stop Flipqy. Cuddles, seemingly being the person who called, invites the gang into his house. Once they enter, we see the gang that were on the title card, including Lumpy, which as I mentioned, was already dead. Cuddles in the muffled language but now sorta discernable explained that Flipqy was planning something awful and tells the gang that Flipqy ran into a house. Giggles points to it outside a window and in typical Scooby fashion, it is abandoned and haunted-looking. The gang goes to search in the house and the HTF gang tags along.

It shows Mystery Inc. exploring the house with the HTF gang putting on Sherlock-esque clothes with microscopes. Petunia steps on a trap floorboard which causes a bucket to swing towards them. Most of them avoid it but Petunia gets hit square in the face as it mangles her face. Blood splatters everywhere. Everybody screams, mostly the Scooby Gang, traumatized about the gory death they just witnessed. It was surprisingly morbid and depressing. Suddenly Flaky, paranoid and running from nothing, bumps into the gang and decides to take Petunia's place. Soon they gather clues and two HTF characters die. I'll list them.

Toothy: Has his eye stabbed during the iconic door gag and bleeds out

Nutty: Has a heart attack while eating with Shaggy and Scooby. Should note that this is a key moment in the episode because Shaggy and Scooby genuinely get trauma and it becomes important in the aftermath

Soon they make a trap and encounter Flipqy. Flipqy puts up a good fight and manages to be a challenge but he soon gets caught in the trap. The Scooby Gang unmasks him to be Lumpy who wanted to scare off or kill everyone so he could have the town to himself. But Scooby is quick to say;

"But if he ras Rumpy, rhan rho ras he?"

Lumpy was soon unmasked to be Flipqy. Everyone panics but Shaggy twitching yells, "Like, I had enough man!"

He grabs an axe nearby and chops Flipqy to pieces. Blood splatters everywhere as Shaggy shakes and sheds tears. The screen fades to black and cuts to a therapist's office with the time card stating that this was after they left HTF's town. The gang sit down shaking telling the therapist about their traumatic experience. The episode fades to black and the credits play.

According to Frank, HTF's creator wanted to bring back the series with a bang and decided to collaborate with Guess Who's team to make HTF return to TV before it came back to Youtube. But of course they couldn't find anyone that could accept the episode because of its pure gore. Not even Adult Swim accepted it. It was canned and HTF never made its big comeback. Remember, if you come across the lost episode by chance, I recommend to not watch it. It truly is traumatizing.
