Squidward's Descent
Heya. So, It's been a while since "Squidward, Are You Happy Now?" incident. I wanted to watch Dunces and Dragons but I lost the season 4 DVD a long time ago. I've been distrustful of buying DVDs from random stores since the incident.
I went to a Walmart and asked if an employee had any Spongebob. She told me to follow her and I saw a whole shelf of Spongebob Merch. I was quite ecstatic, and I bought the season 4 DVDs. I was listening to some music on the drive back home.
The first episode I watched and the only one for tonight was Fear of A Krabby Patty. Everything was normal except it was less, saturated, and colorful. I thought it was because my tv was very old. The episode ended and I went to sleep with no problems. The next morning I woke up and got out of the couch and started watching more Spongebob. I saw an episode that wasn't there yesterday called "Squidward's Descent."
I must have thought that I popped in the wrong disc but no, Fear of a Krabby Patty, and the other episodes were still there. I clicked on the new episode. It started with a title card, as they always do. It was Squidward, but his head was blacked out and only his eyes and pupils could be seen. After the bubble wipe, it starts at Squidward's house, and he was playing his clarinet as he does in some episodes, but this time, it was strangely good, by his standards. It stops when Spongebob yells 'GOOD MORNING SQUIDWARD!' Squid replies with "Would you BE QUIET! I'm practicing for... for uh... a... a... concert!" Spongebob says in response with "Are you sure about that Squidward? You seem pretty hesitant?" which was odd for Spongebob, as it seems like Mr. Krabs or Squilliam would say that. I also observed that Squidward looked like as he was in Help Wanted.
Squidward would respond with "Yeah, I'm sure about that, sponge-brain!" That joke made me chuckle for some reason. Squidward would put his clarinet down, and goes to the Krusty Krab. Squidward would arrive first for some strange reason, then Spongebob arrives.
Mr. Krabs scolds Spongebob for coming late, and Squid would laugh at Spongebob's expense. Spongebob would go to the kitchen, and make a King-Size Ultra Krabby Supreme with the works, double batter fried, on a stick.
I laughed at that reference to Just One Bite, even though it was the previous season. He also made the Triple Krabby Supreme on a kelp bun, extra sea pickles, and burnt to crisp. I was wondering if they were gonna do a call back to Just One Bite. Spongebob brings out the two orders. "Who wanted the Triple Krabby Supreme?" Spongebob called out. A background fish, known as Tom, called him over. "Okay, who wanted the King Size Patty?" The other background fish, known as Frank yelled out for Spongebob. "Alright, coming up!" Spongebob stretches his arm and leg to deliver the orders.
Spongebob eagerly went back to the kitchen, when Squidward's skin noticeably got paler. I thought that was an animation error, as that happens from time to time, but no, it wasn't. Squidward fainted and hit his head hard on the cash register. Spongebob heard the noise. "Squidward? Are you okay?" Spongebob looks through the hole in the wall that Squidward uses to bring the orders to him. I heard the usual sound cue that happens when something bad or horrifying happens. I don't remember the name of the track, though.
Back on track, Spongebob screamed when he saw a gash on his head. Spongebob ran to Mr. Krabs "Oh, what is it that's got you so worried, boyo?" "M-Mr. Krabs! Squidward got injured! We need to get him to a hospital!" "Boyo, you know i don't like spending me money, but if it's needed, i will get him there." "Thank you Mr. Krabs!" Krabs went over to the phone and called the hospital. Meanwhile, Plankton was devising a plan to steal the Secret Formula. "I've got a great idea!" Karen responded in her usual, snarky tone. "What, to steal the formula to a burger?" Plankton got a bit mad and said "It's just not any burger! It's the burger that will save this place!" Karen remarked "Whatever, Sheldon." Sheldon is Plankton's first name if you didn't know. Anyways, it went back to Mr. Krabs and Spongebob, who were at the hospital. The Purple Doctor fish came out, who's named Dr. Gill. "I'm sorry, but i don't think Squidward's going to recover. He's in a coma." Spongebob and Mr. Krabs went in. "Bucko, do you think we should tell his Mom" Spongebob nods. "Yes, we should." Mr. Krabs was the one to call her. "Yes, hello?" "Are you Squidward's Mom?" "Yes, I am the mother of Squidward." "I need to tell you something, and it's not good.." Mrs. Tentacles started to panic. "Oh no! What happened to my dear Squiddy?" Mr. Krabs was near tears "Squidward's in a coma. He got injured at work.. You need to see him" "A-alright, i'll be there as soon as i can be." A time card flashes on screen, with no narrator, no music, just silence. It said "2 Hours have passed." Spongebob, and Mr. Krabs were at Squidward's bed, watching his heartbeat. "C'mon Squidward, i need you to wake up, I know you may not like me, but Bikini Bottom won't be the same without you.. Please.. Squid.."
Spongebob actually started to cry. While Squidward wasn't one of my favorites, it was actually getting to me. The episode cuts to Mama Tentacles, running to the hospital. The doctor recognizes her "Oh, you must be, Misses Tentacles, aren't you" She nods. "I got a call that my son was hospitalized!" The fish nods. "Yes, he is ma'am. You can enter his room." She goes in, and gasps. "S-Squiddy..." She rushed by his side, and held his hand, err.. tentacle, and started to cry. "Please.. Son.. please... i know you can make it..." The heart monitor flatlines, as a beep could be heard. Spongebob, started to cry. "I'll miss you, Squidward." Mr. Krabs also said that. The episode cuts to a funeral with Plankton, Spongebob, Krabs, Mama Tentacles, Grandma Tentacles, (which was odd as she was not introduced until Season 8) Sandy, Patrick, Gary, and Karen, who was in her mobile form. They can be seen grieving. The episode fades out, and the credits play, with a somber piano version of the main theme. I realized that Plankton's side plot was completely glossed over, so i went back a few minutes before the phone call with Mrs. Tentacles, and i heard Mr. Krabs say "I wonder how the Krusty Krab is doing with us gone.." It cuts to the Krusty Krab with a close sign, and Plankton was there. "DRAT! Maybe tomorrow." Karen says "Are you gonna let a closed sign stop you?" "Well i may be trying to steal the formula, but at least i do it when it's open out of respect for him." I chuckled, feeling better after that somber ending. I think I missed that part as I forgot to pause as I grabbed a soda. This episode was rather interesting to say the least. Could it've been the staff releasing some steam by making this episode, and accidentally putting it into a DVD collection? I don't know. I've only toured Nick Studios, and that was 6 years ago. I think the title of it, refers to Squidward's nightmares as he was having a coma. Maybe the psych-out in Squidward in Clarinetland could've been what he was seeing. I don't know honestly. The episode never showed it.
