Starving Sagwa

I have been a fan of Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat for a long time. My friend is a cartoon buff, so I obviously wanted to show her a full episode. One time, we had decided to watch PBS Kids at 12am like any normal teenagers would. Suddenly, at 3am, it happened. What was "it", you ask?

It was a full episode of Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat. I jumped for joy and shook my friend, exclaiming about how this was the perfect opportunity to show her this gem of a show. The episode started out fine. The intro played normally and we both thought that it was cute. Then the actual episode started. The title card was static and read "Starving Sagwa". It starts off with Sagwa, her siblings, and Fufu playing tag. Sagwa runs away in a playful manner, but ends up getting lost. She cries for help (which sounds like the voice actress was needing help), but nobody arrives.

My friend and I watched in horror as we watched Sagwa grow thinner as the video quality got worse. A torn time card read "Two weeks later". Sagwa emerged from the forest to find the palace. We gasped as soon as we saw her face. She was bone thin, her ribs were showing, and she had realistic eyes with crust on them. Once she reaches the palace, she lays down and dies. The rest of the Miao family discovers the body and cries. The crying sounds like legitimate crying, not that comedic crying that is usually used in kids shows. The Miao family, as well as Fufu, proceeds to starve themselves. They soon lay down and die as well, right beside Sagwa.

It soon goes to a blurry screen of Sagwa, still thin and with realistic, gunk covered eyes, staring at the screen and asks "Why? Why did you all do this?" The Miao family and Fufu respond eerily in unison "Because we love you, Sagwa." Then they all turn and stare at the screen for a solid minute. Then the episode ended.

My friend was breathing heavily and I was sobbing. Why would PBS Kids ever air this? Why would they make this? We never mentioned Sagwa again.
