Ten Pointz

After shopping online for some cheap games to play in Quarantine, you come across a mysterious site offering classic retro games for absurdly low prices. You realize that you could possibly get something good, like a collectors' edition SMB 3 or the orginal Sonic game, for only 2 USD! You quickly click "buy", but the screen glitches out so you don't see what you got. You forget about the incident, until a week later you find a mysterious package in your mailbox. You quickly return inside and open it, revealing a strange videogame. You put it into your PC, and then (without any installation process) it turns on.

The letters of the title spell a horrific message: "UNCANNY". This further deepens the curse. You are now stuck in an UNFATHOMABLE HORROR GAME where every step forward seems to be only more terrifying than the one before. The only way out is to do what the game tells you to.

A simple text appears on the screen. COLLECT TEN POINTS.

Your mission is clear, but how does one collect ten points in this wretched realm? The game is not letting you switch over to a different video game until you complete this mission. You may have to attempt collecting ten points by... playing the game.

The eerie ambiance of the game becomes even more concerning as you traverse the low-poly forest. You begin hearing multiple distorted and unsettling sounds in the distant background, the true nature of which you cannot identify. There is a glimmer of hope! In the faraway distant treeline, you see a flickering light. Perhaps the mysterious sounds are coming from that direction... what lies beyond that light is not clear but perhaps it may be worth investigating. As you approach the flickering light, you reach the lamppost. The mysterious sounds cease, indicating that you may have reached the source. However, upon scrutiny, the lamppost appears uninteresting and mundane. What is the purpose of this lamp? It doesn't seem to serve any purpose in this forest...

Your senses alert you to the disturbance of a snapping twig behind you... something is there. You take a few steps back and peer into the darkness. There is nothing that you can visibly see behind you but you do not doubt your ears. The snapping twig sounded definite and you can't find an explanation for what may have caused it.

You continue walking, eventualy coming across a can of beans. You quickly pick them up with the "E" button, and you notice that the number of points left to collect has decreased by one, to nine. That is promising but you are uncertain of the exact conditions or requirements for each point to be collected. All you know is that you must gain points in this forsaken realm in order to free yourself. As you look around you notice a discarded can of beans. You pick them up and strangely, the point counter decreases by one again. Fascinating...

Your ears are assaulted by the sound of a loud, ear-piercing scream which makes you jump in surprise. And that's not all, when you recover you perceive the massive red-haired creature coming out from behind the treeline, staring at you and screaming, "A BEAN!!!" This peculiar, monstrous entity is rather intimidating, but you have already fought many strange enemies. They all had very threatening voices and appearance but so far none have proven to be a worthy adversary, and you doubt this "red haired creature" will be any different. You prepare to engage in a battle against this new foe with the same video game expertise you have exercised against every other adversary you have encountered in this cursed realm. However, the "red haired creature" catches you off guard by doing something unexpected...

it starts doing a fortnite dance.

You stand still... baffled by this unforeseen and utterly baffling moment. You are caught completely off guard as the "red haired creature" begins doing a fortnite dance. Your gamer instincts are being completely bypassed in this moment as the horrific nature of this display is far beyond anything you have ever seen.

A large, red pop up window suddenly materializes in front of your screen, obscuring any view of the rest of the game. The pop up window reads in a red, bold font: "You are an idiot! You have been hacked and now we have your computer. Send us 0.9 Bitcoin now to prevent the deletion of your files." The screen then abruptly vanishes and you are returned to the game, which is now glitching and glitching badly, all while a distorted voice sings an obnoxious and mocking tune: "You... are an idiot! You are an idiot!". The game's screen suddenly morphs into a live webcam, displaying a man in front of his computer with a smug look on his face. You cannot hear what he is saying due to the glitched sounds being much louder, but he is most likely the hacker who infected your device with the malicious ransomware and is mocking you for your foolishness in falling for the trick. He is angry at his failed attempt at scamming you but suddenly he hears something behind him in the room that he resides in. He suddenly goes into a high alert state, seemingly concerned, and pulls out a gun and points it in a different direction while the glitched music in the background becomes even more distorted, nearly becoming unrecognizable as sound.

The door suddenly breaks and the real-life version of the red haired creature breaches the room and emerges into view, entering the web-cam camera frame. The man's demeanor has now shifted to pure shock, fear, and panic. He is not as brave or willing to fight off the monstrous entity in real life as he was in the game. He screams out in desperation and terror.

The man is screaming and the red haired creature is lunging towards him with malevolent intent. However, the screen abruptly cuts to black. A large, static, red "connection terminated" message appears in white text in the centre of the screen. The music becomes distorted and stops playing. An ominous voice then comes from the speaker beside your monitor. It says, "Connection terminated. I'm sorry to interrupt you, [INSERT USERNAME], if you still even remember that name....". The voice becomes increasingly ominous and angry as it speaks on. "But I'm afraid you've been misinformed. You're not here to hack this fool's PC. You have been called here to be judged for your actions and the destruction that you have caused." The voice becomes even more aggressive, almost yelling at you through the speaker. "You have caused suffering far and wide across the entire internet. Prepare to die, sinner! End Communication!".

It is now obvious that the hacker has perished due to the actions of the red haired creature. They have been dealt, as they would say, 'frontier justice'. The screen is now pitch black, nothing but a blank void exists on it. The music has stopped playing and it even appears that the speakers have failed. Silence and darkness surround you, as if a void was swallowing you up. The computer suddenly reboots, turning the screen into a bright glow, once more. Everything is... normal? Not only does everything appear to be normal, but there's even a pleasant twist! As you check your Steam Bank balance, there's an unexplained and pleasant surprise! Your bank balance has somehow increased by no less than 30$!

You have endured many trials, battles, and hardships on your journey. You have faced and defeated strange foes, fought off the machinations of a malicious hacker, and even collected ten points to be freed from the hellish video game. In the end, your rewards were not solely the restoration of a normal reality, but a strange increase in your Steam Bank balance. The adventures of a gamer are never-ending but this one has now come to its close, as we bring an END to our story...
