The Challenge of Roy

Hello guys, here's a story about a pretty weird game I bought during a car boot in Uxbridge (they organise like the biggest car boot in London there). I went there with 3 or 4 friends, it was a really cold Saturday, somewhere in September.

We noticed a guy who was selling GameCube accesories and games. Martyn (one of my mates) had a GameCube at home, so we picked a few discs and asked the trader about the price. He said that we can have the 6 games for 15 quid, but he seemed not to recognize one of the games. It was called The Challenge of Roy. He said that he probably forgot about it, but we could clearly see that his hands were shivering anxiously. I found that strange, but my mates said that it was because of the cold.

After the car boot was over, we took the train to Martyn's home, where we wanted to feel a bit of nostalgia. We played Batman Vengeance first. It was really fun, it reminded us of our early teens. Then, we decided to play The Challenge of Roy. None of us recalled playing it, so we started looking for instructions, but the only thing we found in the packaging was a weird piece of paper with "JUST PLAY IT YOU LOUSY BASTARD!" on it. We started laughing like madmen. We thought it was just a joke from the seller.

We turned the game on. It's menu looked... well, different. It looked like it was made in Game Maker or something. We had 4 options: New Game, Continue (which was darked out since we were playing it for the first time), Settings and Bonus Levels. We obviously chose New game. It loaded for a pretty long time, but it was totally worth it. It was a really fun game, with pretty nice graphics. It was a bit similar to Super Mario Sunshine. The character was called Roy and he looked a bit like a small version of Donkey Kong with a human face. We had to collect bananas and playing cards. Once we collected the whole deck, we got a message saying this:

"You hve unlocked a bonus mision."

It looked pretty weird, and we noticed the typos immediately. We decided to check what it was. We went to the bonus levels menu and we noticed that one of them became availible. When we clicked on it, it took Roy to a weird little wooden house. There was no furniture inside, only some weird old stuff, like a thermometer and an old clock. After walking around for a while, we noticed a note hanging on the wall, so we pressed on B to read it. It said something like this:

"Hello Laura,

Im very very sory. Plase dont tell anyone, not even the police.

Yours,

Roy."

Things started getting creepy now. The message looked as if it was written in a rush by some dumbass programmer. After a while, a really weird talking TV set popped up in the middle of the room. It started mumbling something, but it had a speech bubble above it, so we could read it. It said this:

"I know you secret roy. Dont try lying."

The view zoomed into the TV. It was showing a video of a little girl, about 7, standing in a forest. She was crying. I wanted to turn the game off, but my mates said that they are curious about the game and they want to see what happens. It really was a mistake. The girl was just standing there, still crying. Then we noticed a really creepy thing. It was an old man with a knife, who was holding a kitten in his hands. He was standing in the background, but he was walking towards the camera pretty slowly. Then, even more weird things happened.

The old man started stabbing the cat, just in front of the girl. He took the cat's insides and put them in a plastic bag. We started getting sick at this point, but we decided to watch it until the end. After the scene which was coming, we all regreted buying this game. The man started raping the girl and after some time, he stabbed her a few times and he took some of her guts. The thing he has done afterwards is simply unrealistic. He took the still breathing girl's guts and put them in the cat's body. Then, he took the cat's guts from the plastic bag and put them inside the girl. He sewed their bodies up, even though the cat was already dead, and he left both of the bodies in the forest, but you could clearly see that the girl was still taking het last breaths. The video finally ended. The TV said:

"This is soo hot, isnt it!"

We all started puking. Then, the game returned to the main menu. We turned it off and we destroyed the disc immediately.

We went to the same car boot the next Saturday, hoping to find the trader. Luckily for us, he was there again. We told him what we experienced. He put his head down and started sobbing quietly as he said that he doesn't want to talk about it right now. He said that we can see him after the car boot in a local cafe and then talk about it.

The car boot was over. We all went to the cafe in Denham and the man was there. We could clearly see that he was really sad. That's exactly what the said to us that afternoon:

"Listen guys, I'm so sorry for selling this game to you. I just wanted to get rid of it. The game itself was innocent, but it was tampered with by a really filthy man. He murdered my sister!"

He started crying a bit louder now. We started feeling sorry for him now. After a while, he continued speaking.

"His name was Roy. Some bloody dog from Crawley. He stabbed a little girl called Laura to death, but they let him free after some time in jail. This little wanker chose my little Sarah as his next victim! He killed her, and he even had the guts to tamper with a GameCube game which I've made during the ICT lessons at school! He put the disgusting video of him doing this sickening crap to my little sister in the bonus levels! I hope that he rots in prison!"

We felt so sorry for him. We told him that we can help him if he wants to, but he said "thank you" and stopped crying. Oh, and BTW his name was Lee, he's a really nice guy, about our age.

Aftermath

We gave the remains of the disc to the police. Thankfully, this bastard who killed Sarah is already in jail and he won't leave it until death.

We became friends with Lee. He has a beautiful wife and a little daughter called Sarah.

In loving memory of Sarah
