The MOTHER 3 Cartridge
If you've played EarthBound before you've probably heard of MOTHER 3 or better known as EarthBound 2 in the states. It was never released outside of Japan, at the time I obtained this cartridge I couldn't find any bids for it on a mainstream website (e.g. eBay). I really wanted to play it now, so I went to some shady looking bidding website, I forget the URL of it or the name even. But that's not the point. It looked like the real deal and it was selling for free... It was kind of suspicious to me, it must've been broken or something to be sold for free, but I didn't stop to think.
At 11 PM at night, there was a box outside my door, it contained the MOTHER 3 cartridge. I took the cartridge, popped it in my GBA and to my surprise, it wasn't broken or anything. The game however was in Japanese but previously I had played the fan translation on an emulator, so I knew what to do. I simply clicked on "Don't Care" for each character and thing which made their names "Lucas", "Claus", "Flint", "Hinawa" and "Boney".
The game started as normal, I was really enjoying it like I did on the emulator, but I was extra-hyped because I was playing it on my GBA. When the title screen appears after Hinawa reads the letter sent from Flint, the title screen fades out only to be greeted with a battle scene. It was Giygas from EarthBound, the same sprite and the same music. Giygas never made an appearance in MOTHER 3 unless you count the cut Giygas boss that could be accessed in the debug room, however, this Giygas was using the sprite from EarthBound which was different. I was encountered with a Japanese text which said "残す" then my game turned off, wondering what the fuck just happened.
I turned off and then on my GBA and the game simply wouldn't boot. I was wondering what that text had said, I dumped the cartridge to my computer as a ROM and opened it with a text editing program for ROMs. It appeared as though that was the last text of the game. I opened up Google Translate, as unreliable as it is, it seemed to translate accurately. "残す" translated to "Leave". It was strange, was the game trying to tell me to leave? Well, I went to sleep.
At about 3 AM in the morning, I heard the GBA turn on, and the MOTHER 3 title screen and it's music were playing. It was strange, I took the cartridge out but now it suddenly started playing? Well, I was wondering what would happen if I pressed on "続ける" (which was continue). I was greeted by the same Giygas which said "誰にもない一言" this time around. The game turned off again. I dumped the cartridge again and it appeared as though more text was there. Was the game writing itself as it went along? "誰にもない一言" translated in Google Translate out to "Not a word to anyone".
I think the game was really speaking to me, it appeared as though it was coding and writing itself as it went along and said things like "Leave" and "Not a word to anyone" which is something you would say to a person, I didn't even press on any of the buttons for it to do anything (besides pressing continue). Well, I have already come to the conclusion it was hacked but it also seemed supernatural/paranormal. Turning itself on and adding to the game when nothing was added".
Well the game turned off again and I am going to TRY to sleep. I had no idea for what to do with the Gameboy, should I throw it away so It doesn't wake me up or should I keep it to find out what the fuck was going on? Well anyways, I'll just leave it there, hopefully not waking me up again.
I will keep updating here, hoping to find answers. I don't know the actual definition of "creepypasta" more than it is just creepy shit on the Internet, so I decided to come here to talk about it because I thought the likes of 4chan would just troll me. This explains why I'm posting this here.
27/05/2012 - The game just turned on again. A text box came up saying "あなたがするように求められたときに再生されます" which translated to "Will be played when you are prompted to" which was probably trying to say "You will play when you are prompted to". It then cut to black. We got to the overworld around the part where Duster makes the ladder on the cliff. I climbed up the ladder and found Hinawa's dress hanging from the tree. I clicked on it and it said "あたがGiygas" which I found out it translated to "Giygas was there"
The battle entrance came up and we were greeted with Giygas. It wasn't doing anything. The Gameboy shut off, I turned it off then on again, and to my amaze, it worked. I was getting really bored with this, it was just the same shit with Giygas saying shit and turning the game on and off. I turned it off and left it alone.
The game turned on, I turned it off... I regretted that a lot... a few minutes later it turned on again and I kept turning it off. I later decided I wanted to play some Pokemon on my GBA. I popped in the cart for FireRed and started to play. I continued my game and I started in Lavender Town. Strange, I don't remember even getting up to Lavender Town. I know about that bullshit Lavender Town Syndrome thing and it didn't scare me like most if it just randomly started in Lavender Town despite that music. I went into the Pokemon Tower seeing If I could encounter Ghost and the graves looked weird.
The graves were placed in a swirl with a face in the middle. I know for a FACT that I had the real deal of FireRed that I got from a GameStop shop, maybe it was a glitch of some sort. I went into the middle of the swirl into the head and it then said "GYIYG" and then a swirl appeared with the encounter music, and I was then shown with a image of Giygas that appeared for one split second. I knew it was over, no longer was I safe from Giygas. I placed in the MOTHER 3 cart in the GBA to see if it would still work, but to no avail. It seemed as though Giygas had taken over my GBA and was the only one who could activate the MOTHER 3 game. I dumped that cart's ROM onto my computer.... What if my computer was infected?
I'll see if I can get MOTHER 3 working again or if Giygas calls me again. I just hope I haven't done anything that could majorly fuck up my life or anything. I'm rather scared because of this whole situation. I'll try to get back here as soon as I can.
