The Old Man's Secret

We all know that Link likes to break pots. We all know that he somehow doesn't get arrested for stealing, breaking and entering, and destruction of public property. We also know that the dude at the swordsman's school in Majora's Mask has tons of stuff in his back room.

So what's in the boxes? Don't we all wonder? We know that it must be something related to swords, right? So what does he have? Everyone in town knows how he teaches you to use a sword well. And yet, he has no personal connections to anybody. So how did he get there?

Legend has it, a well-trained man in the art of sword-mastery approached a piece of land and fought his way through many enemies and powerful obstacles. He had determination, and pulled through. He came to a large cemetery, and there were 5 graves. 4 were labeled Moonchild 1-4 etc. The last one, in the center of the square, was marked Majora.

Each had a strange mask on the ground above the grave. He decided the clearing would be perfect for a town, so he moved the Moonchildren's graves to the four temples surrounding the area. But eventually, he had to deal with Majora.

So, he built a giant tower in the center of this large plot of ground and made it a clock tower. On the inside, he built a clear path up to a small burial chamber. This is where he put Majora. On the way down, most of the path crumbled, making it impossible to reach. He built the rest of the town and settled down. Eventually, word spread of the man's determination, and they came to the town, which was now called Clock Town. They settled in the town, as well as the land around the place right up to the temples. They called it Termina, the middle word in determination.

So, he taught various individuals how to use the sword properly, and stayed healthy. But then, he began seeing haunting visions, and they told him that the moon was under the complete control of the mask he had found by Majora's Grave. So, he hired an all-powerful warrior to hide it deep inside of an old temple.

Years later, a young boy, obsessed with masks and how to get them, came to Termina. He found this warrior, and he got that same mask. So he kept it as one of his most prized possessions.

Eventually, going mad, the Swordsman grew his hair out and relied on his mind's eye to see whether they were worthy of training or not. He grew his hair out so he would stop seeing visions, but they still plagued him. Eventually, he called all the doctors in the land to aid him, and they prescribed every kind of hallucinogen possible, anything but the terrible things this poor man was forced to see.

Eventually, he went mad. He would train anyone with a sword, as long as they would pay. He still takes them, as is proved by the boxes in the back.
