The Strange Computer

Not long ago, I went to the Ceaser Creek Fleamarket in Ohio. Bored and upset about my laptop that I have had for 3 years died, I walked around with my family until they told me that I could wonder around while they go to a new section of the flea market. My parents told me to meet them back outside in 45 minutes, because they did not want to wait long.

Anyways, I was walking around and came upon a sign while walking that said "Brand New!: Carl's Computer Surplus Section!", me loving and having a great interest in computers, I decided to look for the stall of computers.

I looked everywhere until I finally came upon a small stall, with only one table, and some useless items around it.

I decided to leave until a man came around with a computer, set it on the table, and asked me what I was looking for. I told him that I was just looking around and I was looking for a new computer replacement. He told me that his name was Carl and that he had just the right thing for me, so he walked me over to the table to see the computer

I saw that the computer was black and looked new, but it had no brand name on it or anything, not even those windows and intel stickers. The computer was a desktop computer with only two drives, suprisingly, one was a CD, DVD and Blu-ray disk drive, and the other was a dual combo floppy drive with a three and a half inch floppy drive and five and a quarter inch floppy drive.

The Cd drive was black and the dual floppy drive was an old white yellowish color like older computers were. The man showed me the cool tech features, such as the computer had a 12 giga bite memory card, a 500 giga bite hdd drive, and many, many other awesome things.

The man also told me that the computer was perfect for both work and gaming and that the operating system was windows 7 sixty four bit. I asked the man where he could have got this good of a computer, he told me that he just built it himself and how great of a computer hacker he was.

After talking for a little bit, I asked him how much he was selling the computer for, I expected it to be at least $2000, but no, he said he would sell it to me for $60, since he thought that I was a cool guy since I also had a good interest in computers. I was shocked at the price he gave me, I thought that maybe he was just joking, but no. I pulled out my wallet and I had $74 from chores, birthday money, etc., Carl put the computer in a box and handed it to me and told me to take good care of it, I took the pc, thanked the man and went searching for my parents.

When I met up with my parents, they were confused about what I had in the box I was carrying, I didn't want to tell my parents about how good of a computer I got for such a low price, so I just told them that I got a used, beat down computer for myself that I can use until I get a new pc, they fell for it, and we headed home.

I ran upstairs and began to plug everything in, it was great! The computer started up extremely fast, faster than any normal computer, I noticed only one thing, the bottom bar on every windows computer, looked like the windows 7 safe mode bar, I actually liked it since it looked different than others.

I changed the background to the canyon background saved on every windows 7 operating system and the admin from "Carl" to "Layne" and choose the oragami crane picture for it. The other wierd thing about the computer, was that there were no Icons on the screen except for recycle bin and Internet Explorer, so I imeditaley began downloading programs and games.

I installed Google Chrome and Firefox, getting rid of Internet Explorer, I installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 and Malwarebytes, I also installed a microphone and webcam, and I also installed Gmod, Postal 2 Fudge Pack ( Along with the Draven mod), Fallout 3:Game Of The Year, Oblivion: Game Of The Year, The Sims Complete Collection, Soldier Of Fortune 2: Double Helix, and a load of other games and programs, but STILL the computer ran fast as ever.

When I got done installing everything, a random file popped up on my computer along with a message box saying "Your Welcome, Friend" I decided to scan the file in case of viruses and there were no infections. I opened the file and there were three programs, all named 1, 2 and 3.

I opened one and I couldn't believe my eyes, a big list of emulators from every video game system ever made, even ones i dont think exist, when I clicked one of the emulators a list of every game on that system came up, even a whole bunch of hacked versions of the game to. So every game and game system on the planet was on my PC, i was plain and simply shocked. I decided to move on.

When I clicked number 2, a list of every type and every computer virus in the world came up, and the strange thing is, If I clicked on the virus, trojan, worm ,rootkit, etc. , I could activate it on my PC, and what was even weirder was that the computer viruses were changing as if the list was updating and more viruses were being released. I decided to just shut down the computer and get off for the night, I also decided not to tell my parents in case they would worry and I went to bed.

I woke up in the morning to get on the computer, the file was still there, and for some reason, I decided to keep it and see what the third program was, it was a text file and it read,

Dear Layne,

I hope you like your new computer, I installed some things I think you might like also. I hope you enjoy it!!!

From, Carl

P.S, Thanks Friend :)

I was confused and decided to convinve my parents to take me up to the fleamarket so I could look around, when really, I was going to see Carl. My parents dropped me off and I walked around, and I couldn't find the stall or Carl anywhere. I asked the guy next to Carl if he knew where Carl was, what he told me was strange.

The man told me that no one had worked in that stall for at least 7 months and Carl used to sell computers there, before he got into a car wreck that took his life about 7 months ago.

I got home finally and looked into my wallet, all of my money was in there! as if I never bought the computer, even though it was still resting on my desk. I walked over and sat down, a message box suddenly popped up on my screen saying

"Layne, I hope you like your gift, I see you have tooken care of it! Well, this is goodbye good friend, until the after life :)"

I still have the computer, in fact im typing on it right now for this story. I still have the file and the computer still runs very, very fast.

Im not sure why Carl had given me the computer, maybe he was an angel or something, oh well. I still get messages sometimes on my computer saying stuff like "Hello" and stuff like that, but I wont ever forget that all of this happened, why to me, I will never know.
