The countdown
Author's note: this is just a fun lil' analog horror story i made to entertain (finished) content warning: Described gore and suicide
One day i decided to turn on the TV for family movie night. We were searching through channels for good kid shows because my 5 year old daughters can get quite sensitive. I checked on PBS kids sprout for some mostly coming over familiar faces like Pingu, Arthur and curious George. Then, we came across one not many knew about called 'the count down'.
We didn't think much from it at first from it's simplistic animation style, representing the characters as differently coloured stick man and lack of music but the comedy, characters and mature but well handled subjects were done with flying colours.plus on the new technology making it hear what you say for questions at the end. For characters there are 16. There was James the blue stick man who had a lot of naivety surrounding him. Larry the orange stick man who was the most chill person ever. Tracey the violet stick woman who was a mother of 2 children Agnes and Chad, the Bluey and bingo of the show. Milly the pink stick woman was a brain box. Miss terry, the dark green stick man was a teacher. George was the grey stick man who was your average bully. Rocky the black stick man was a local store owner Lilly the magenta stick woman was a protector who stood up for all. Then you have sunny the yellow stick woman who was a girlfriend to max, a red stick man who I've never liked for his off-putting smile. Then we have his sister Jill brother rick and Mr and Mrs Henderson who were his parents.
We loved watching this. We watched for 3 month s as if it was as necessary as cereal. I loved it. I snuck out of bed to watch it it was that good. However, one time i snuck out to watch it started as normal and played an episode called why were it would solve questions. At one point the screen blacked out. I tried to turn off the TV but the light was still on so i tried to unplug it from back, but, for some reason it would stay on. I then tried to turn the power off at the outlet but, still,nothing. I then went to unplug it at the TV, and that's where the weird stuff would happen. I heard a voice talking to me.
"you know I've thought of that, right?" I went to look at the TV and there was Ben. For some reason not smiling. "i just want to ask you something, please don't go on this show ever again, ok?"
"why?" i asked, "whats the matter?"
"living here really, its like the white torture. Only sunny and i are sentient and are properly in control. They aren't and it drives us crazy."
"I'm sorry i promise i wont."
"thanks. Please keep the promise and tell the others, for me"
Sleeping that night was weird; i got to eventually. The next morning was worrying. I went for breakfast early which didn't go unquestioned.
"quite early, don't you think" my wife asked.That's when it kicked in .
"Hey, i need to tell you something . I know this sounds faker than flat earth, but listen. We cant watch the countdown."
"do you have schizophrenia? There's nothing to worry about. Probably just a bad dream."
When thinking about it more, it was probably was seemingly the only answer so we went to watch it again. Since all went okay when we watched it at night ... But he came again
"what did you do you twisted idiot?"
"listen, i can explain, i thought it was a dream."
"yeah seems like a dream still doesn't it?!" He was furious. The more i tried to make him see the more he went after me."in fact, i know the solution to this,come down and watch tomorrow night."
The TV shut down itself, i tried to get some sleep but my dreams were just full of him taunting me.
"restless nights, don't like them? Don't worry, i deal with the on a daily basis,once I'm done with you all i can end everything. My suffering and the causes. Hopefully they keep it interesting. FOR ME!"
Then came tomorrow where me and the family watched more. 2 things made it weird to watch; the constant static and absence of max and sunny. max i knew the exact reason as hes preparing a show but why sunny?
That night i didn't go down well. I tried to sleep;but my eyes wouldn't close. I was scared as if something was to happen. I got comfortable as i calmed myself. And just that second something grabbed my legs and then i got jump scared by max.
I blacked out when it happened but i could hear feint noises of squeaks and creaks when i got up.y i was in an unlit room paralysed in a chair
"i didn't think i'd ever resort to any of this." Said a voice.
"I tried ok? stop!" I shouted but nothing would convince him otherwise
"I want ed to trust you, but here we are.This is because you hate me isn't it.Any questions before the tape rolls?"
"Wheres sunny?" That was the only question i could have thought of.
"ah, i hoped you'd say that. Seems you care about her as much as i did."
"what do you mean did?"
He then lit the room and shined the light on Sunny's hanging corpse. Eyes hanging out mouth gaping open with a family of spiders within. rope hung around the neck. Everything under was a rotting skeleton. I shuddered and screamed as he started to shout at me.
"This is what happens to others when you don't listen, some around you will end up like this? Remember you could have gotten out of this , but look whats been done!"
Then the TV turned on as the intro played. Then i saw James as he looks for his parents.
"Mum? Dad were are you?" After endlessly looking he gave up and started to ball on the floor when a voice came.
"It's ok James, you're safe here," panted Ben as he put his hand on his shoulder to calm him."in a few seconds." Ben gripped his shoulder tight as he slits his throat wide open with his nails before impaling his head on a tree branch as if to put him onto display.
The screen faded to static before revealing Larry chilling on the beach, floating in the sea.although such peace would be shattered as he has his legs pulled down to the bottom of the ocean. Once he reached the ocean bed, Max revealed himself with a saw as he slowly sawed off his legs to insure drowning and then was eaten by a shark in search of prey.
Yet again the screen turned to a static shock as we see Tracey and her kids in a car
"Are we nearly there yet?" Questioned Agnes.
"Yes dear, it should be 2 minutes now."
"You are one minute away from your destination." Said Max mimicking a satnav.
"you see?"
"HELL!" Shouted Max covering Tracey's eyes as the car filled with screams. The car ripped through a gate and rammed into a tree as bodies flop onto branches.
Then we see Milly after the average static effect looking into a closet for a pen. But, when she turned the light on it turned into a hallway. Rushing to the next door she steps on a pressure plate to find saw blades closing in from behind. The door wouldn't open so all she could do on her path to purgatory, is be taken there in 2d. Once the dead is done the room looked like an organ fest.
It then goes to Miss terry who is seen emailing the principal as the room turns to dark. When she looks up she sees Max writing his name on her forehead.
George was then thrown on the stage as a subtitle box reads his every word. After a while, Max appears behind him grabbing the box to impale his chest and rip him wide open.
Rocky is then revealed as someone at the store puts a gun on the conveyor belt. Once payed the customer loads it after being shown to be Max who then shot Rocky through the skull.
Lilly then appears from static speaking for rights as Max gets behind her and rams the microphone through her jaw as she screams as hear ears begin to bleed out and finish her off.
"Before we get to the last kill, here's a video of a moment I had With sunny to make you feel guilty."
The screen shows valentines day at the school where Max gives Sunny a present."H-hi Sunny ... Ummm, i wanted to give this to you for all you've helped me with." Max opens his hand to reveal a ring with the. name Henderson engraved onto it.
"You really want to?"
"If you don't like it, y-you don't need to take it."
"I'd gladfully be with you."
"Really?"
"Of course, it's for you and when we do get married, We'll enjoy every second."
The screen fades to static as Max throws his family into a puddle of gasoline and throws in a lit match for the finishing hit. The screen fills with smoke as the burnt bodies of his families lie there. Having everything done Max cackle as he screams, "there's only one who shall rise, goodbye un-sentients"
That"s when his mother say "but... We were." That made something snap inside him.
"They...were? No! Nonononono!" Max starts to sob on the floor as i say,
"Look at all this pointless work you've made."
He snaps "oh well, be happy the show will have you in the finale."he mutters as he grabs a knife, "after you is your family!" That was the end for me i was killed instantly as slowly the rest of my entire bloodline joined in purgatory. Maybe i should've done better, atleast theen we wouldn't be here. Or would they've just ignored me. We'll never know now sadly.
