Well, I've seen a bit in my time here. Wrote a number of Trollpastas too. But what I've noticed is one prevalent thing: Alot of trollpastas seem to be the same: Overusing cliches, bad grammar, all caps, what not. That's all fine and well, but not when you're using specifically that as a punchline.
Let us first start with what a trollpasta is: A mockery of a creepypasta or a humorous story making fun of CP or its authors/users/the like.
That being said, lets get into certain things that will quickly make a trollpasta unfunny:
Caps don't make a story funny anymore than scary
Sure, I get it. Some pastas use caps wrongly, so therefore that should be exaggerated for comedic purposes. But where is the line drawn? I find myself seeing this as more cliche than actually funny. It has been done in so many times it is ridiculous.
Caps don't change the overall tone of a trollpasta. If the content is bad, it is still bad with caps. If it isn't funny, ridiculous emphasition doesn't help that.
Grammar
Another thing I see as pretty cliche. I tend to find things a tad funnier if I can actually read what I'm looking at. Basically, it isn't funny anymore. Stop doing it so much. Bad grammar is fine. When I'm literally screaming the category name, that's where the line should be drawn.
How much sex is too much sex?
Are you aiming for trollpasta or comedy porn? Sure, some stories pull this off well, Shrek is Love, Sanic.exe, and a couple others.
What I'm trying to get at here is MAYBE DON'T OVERUSE AND ABUSE THESE THINGS.
What makes a TP funny?
This is hard to point at, but mainly, how it makes its mockery. It needs content that is actually appealing to the sense of humor. Either subtly or immediate LOL.
Take things out of context. Make a terrifying scene into a joke. When you watch Scary Movie, is it funny because it uses cliche lines and the like, or funny because it actually parodies the movies they're mocking?
That is what you are aiming for: Basic satire. Either of the users, the stories, etc, but that is what it is. Satire. It isn't supposed to be overuse of cliches lines, or at least, not so much anymore. Trollpasta changes with the genre it is subbed to. Cliches are not so prevalent anymore, so there isn't really something to mock anymore.
I would love to see a trollpasta that makes fun of the constant plotholes used nowadays. Basically, blowing out of proportion small holes people tend to leave. Or even more going towards Classic blatant ripoffs.
What DOESN'T make a trollpasta funny?
Basically, if it ends up being the same as three other trollpastas you've read on this wiki, chances are it isn't funny. If your trollpasta basically reads the same as all the others (ONE DAY I WUZ ET A GARAJ SELL AND I BUYED THIS GAME AND THEN A SKELETON POPPED OUT AND I DIED) it isn't funny.
For now, that is pretty much all I have to say. Trollpastas, being satire, are a tadbit more dynamic and thus more difficult to actually write a Writing Advice Blog for.
