Uhcakip
Uhcakip is a modern-day legend that had its roots in the Pokemon franchise - although it has since spread to other video-game franchises as well as other media (most notably cartoons).
Uhcakip is popularly believed to have began in 1997 when a young gamer claimed to have encountered a graphical glitch in his Pokemon game - depicting a red Pikachu with a white dot where its face should of been.
This glitch soon began to crop up in other Pokemon games and stories began to spread of how the glitch would corrupt the game - deleting player progress and forcing them to restart their game from the beginning.
It was in 1999 that the first report came in of someone claiming to have encountered Uhcakip outside the game, the individual claimed that he was being followed by the creature day and night - eventually the victim was taken into medical care and his claims dismissed as the result of a mental breakdown.
This did not stop the phenomena from spreading and soon more people began to claim to see Uhcakip, what had began as a computer glitch seemed to have become a mild case of mass hysteria as mysterious deaths and disappearances started being blamed on Uhcakip.
In 2001 the Uhcakip reports died away and it would not be until 2003 that Uhcakip sightings once again began to surface, this time with yet another mutation - people claiming to see cartoon characters and other video-game characters such as Mario, Link and Donkey Kong with the distinctive red coloration and white dot of Uhcakip.
Once again these sightings became the source of conspiracy theories linking them to the supposed deaths and disappearances of various individuals but dismissed as hoaxes by the mainstream media.
2005 saw what is believed to be the most disturbing Uhcakip story unfold when a mother claimed her son was watching television only to experience what she believed was an epileptic fit - rushing to her son's aid she claimed to see a Uhcakip-like figure reach out of the television set towards her son.
When emergency services arrived on the scene they treated the boy - who recovered quickly - as well as the mother, who they believed had experienced a severe mental breakdown.
Since then Uhcakip sightings have been slowly decreasing but as of early 2012 reports still come in every now and then of a Uhcakip-like being - often in a video-game or cartoon.
