Why did the chicken cross the road?

Because the chicken is a rooster. The rooster's owner said that if the chicken would stop laying, they were going to eat it. Out of the fear of being killed because of the inability to lay eggs, the rooster would go to the grocery store across the road every week to buy eggs. Neither the store manager nor the employees know why, but they don't question it as long as the rooster pays. It is still unknown how the rooster gets the money required to buy the eggs. That is why the chicken crossed the road.
