A bit of insight before you read this journal: I found this journal while looking through an antique Cold War store, this journal only had the word “MITCHELL” on it, so I assume it’s the former owner’s name. As I went to the counter, the owner said, “Ah ol’ Mitchell! I knew him before he passed. He started as a naive teen until he went somewhere. I don’t know where he went, but it messed him up.” I read through the entire journal. I warn the reader, that this journal shows a man’s descent into madness. That’s all from me, let's read Mitchell’s story.

Entry #1 - 2/02/65 It’s my birthday today, I got some comic books and this notebook on which I am currently writing, I also turned 13 today!

Entry #2 - 2/03/65 I went to school today, every rich kid has a color television, and everyone else is jealous of them, as we only have a black and white television.

Entry #3 - 2/04/65 After I got home from school today, I noticed my parents weren’t home, they were probably at work, so I watched the news, my parents don't believe in the news, but I like to watch it. Today in the news, there was talk about a potential war going on between Russia and the United States, I hope it doesn’t get too bad.

Entry #4 - 2/05/65 Today, I told my friends about the news, they seemed worried about it, but I reassured them that it would be okay.

Entry #5 - 2/06/65 Today, I was home to see that my parents went to work. When they left, I decided to watch the ne

Entry #6 - 2/02/68 Man, I haven’t written in this thing in a while. We have a lot of catching up to do. First, the last time I wrote in this journal, I heard nuclear sirens going off, so I rushed to the shelter. I had to wait out the time of nuclear fallout. It took almost 3 years, and I am 16 now. My parents didn’t come home after the explosion, I hope that they are okay.

Entry #7 - 2/03/68 I am going outside for the first time in 3 years. I don’t expect it to be pleasant.

Entry #8 - 2/04/68 There were… so many dead bodies. I can’t believe Russia would do this.

Entry #9 - 2/05/68 It has been a full 3 years since the explosion, today I found a survivor camp, it seems very friendly and apparently, there are “zombie-like people whose saliva is an acid.” I’ll keep a lookout for them. For this journal, I’ll call them zombies.

Entry #10 - 2/06/68 I was given a shotgun and sent on my first mission for food, as I looked for berries, I saw what seemed to be another survivor, he seemed distressed and didn’t answer me when I tried calling him, I raised my shotgun, thinking it was a zombie, I pulled the trigger. Thankfully, it was a zombie. Maybe I should go with another survivor next time.

Entry #11 - 2/07/68 Today I asked the leader if I could go to the old Coca-Cola building, where both of my parents used to work. He accepted and I began the walk.

Entry #12 - 2/08/68 I am close to the building, it looks ok after all these years of fallout.

Entry #13 - 2/08/68 I entered the building, and found my parents, but they were feasting on a dead coworker. They had turned into zombies. I slowly raised my shotgun, shot at both of my parent’s heads and now they’re dead. I walked back to base still shocked at what I had done.

Entry #14 - 2/09/68 Why don’t I feel remorse?

Entry #15 - 2/10/68 unintelligible scribbling, the only word I can recognize is “kill them,” what I assume is blood is also on the page.

Entry #16 - 2/11/68 I DID IT, I KILLED THEM ALL. I'M PRETTY SURE I LEFT NO SURVIVORS, IN THE PROCESS A MAN NEARLY SHOT ME AND RAN OFF, IM CHASING HIM RIGHT NOW.

Entry #17 - ??? (no date is on the page) I TRIPPED ON A BEAR TRAP AND MY ARM AND LEG ARE CAUGHT IN 2 DIFFERENT BEAR TRAPS. I DON’T THINK I’ll LIVE.

Entry #18 - ??? (Again, no date is on the page) I SEE A ZOMBIE. IT SEES ME.

The rest of the pages were either empty or with blood on them, the owner of the shop was the survivor who put the 2 bear traps there, after he died, he took the book and kept it with him for 56 years.
