The Language of Ghosts

This is the true story of when I realised that my friend was possessed by a ghost. It was a horrific experience and after months of repressing the memory, trying to pretend it never happened, I believe now is finally the right time to explain what really happened on that fateful day.

We were messing around, playing as usual, when he said "hey, I have a joke to tell you!" Loving jokes as I do, I told him to go ahead and tell it. Oh how I wish I had refused his offer and remained in ignorance...

"Knock knock," he began.

"Who's there?" As I said this, I saw the first trace of the creature within him. A horrific grin spread across his face, and his eyes gleamed with demonic evil. Anyone else would say that he was simply smiling at the funny joke he was about to tell me, but I know better.

As his face contorted into that ghastly expression, he spoke the word. Out of his mouth came the language of ghosts, a word that strikes fear into the hearts of mortals.

"Boo."

I screamed and collapsed to the ground. The word seemed to echo in my head, draining away my sanity and leaving only pure, intense terror. I scrambled across the floor away from him, trying to escape the thing that had once been my friend. But he did not chase me. The ghost, demon, whatever you want to call it, decided to toy with me first.

"What's wrong? Are you alright?" Obviously this fiend was a master at mimicking humans, because my friends face no longer showed that ghastly grimace, instead appearing concerned. If I didn't know better, if I hadn't heard him speak the language of ghosts with my very own ears, I may well have believed him to be normal.

He took a step closer to me, stretching out a hand. Anyone else would think nothing of this, just a polite gesture to help up a fallen friend surely! But as he offered me his hand, I made another grim observation.

He had five fingers. Five! The number of the devil! Or was it 666? I forget, but honestly at this point it hardly mattered. Something beyond human understanding was occurring there and if I remained too long, I may not have left with my sanity intact. I leapt to my feet, avoiding his outstretched hand, and fled out of that house of horrors into the night.

Weeks later I lay a trap and attempted to summon my friend in a last effort to exorcise the beast within him and save his soul. But alas, he refused to meet with me, claiming I was "too weird" and he "didn't want to play with me anymore". The demonic spirit within him is a crafty one, it seems.

So there we have it. The story of how I lost a friend to a paranormal creature of great cunning. I fear it is now far too late to rescue my friends soul, and can only pray he found true peace in the afterlife. As for me, I must live with the memory of this horrific occurrence for the rest of my days.
