Today I watched Nu Pogodi, and you know, it turns out that it's not just a cartoon about human-like animals. It's a real science fiction. Postapocalypse for the mankind.

It's just incredible how they managed to put such a universe into a cartoon like this. It's all very simple. The point is, BEFORE animals like Wolf and Hare there were humans in that world. We can see that in the "Museum" episode: there are caveman, human knight armor, Egyptian painting and even Venus de Milo. Which means that humans actually lived there once! But then bipedal animals came from somewhere and either enslaved us or just wiped us out. The only thing left from humanity is it's culture which was precisely replicated by those creatures, up to alcoholics watching soccer on TV with a dried fish in hands.

What's interesting is that not all animals in the Nu Pogodi universe are bipedal and sapient. There are horses which are still animals and still serve for riding and there are even regular house cats. If you watch the entire series you will notice that the most common animals there are Wolves, Hares, Hippopotami and Dogs. There are also Lions and Bears. That might imply that [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDDJLq2rs5Y&t=51s Wolf chases Hare not because he is hungry] - they have well-developed food industry borrowed from humans - but because of some ideological differences. It's possible that they belong to two rival extraterrestrial races, though Hares don't feel such hatred towards Wolves.
